"Where's My Midwife proposes that activists from all over the country take the following actions:
1) Now that we have a "Blueprint for Action" for maternity care reform, form a study group comprised of local labor and delivery nurses, obstetricians, midwives, hospital administrators and consumers. This group should meet monthly to study the Blueprint and begin to discuss practical ways to begin implementing it.
2) Support local childbirth educators who teach mother-centered maternity care. We believe that maternity care will improve in our country when women are empowered to make educated decisions about their birth.
3) Start a community birth circle where women can come together to share their stories and compare and contrast birth experiences with different care providers. Consider purchasing a FlipCam and record some of these stories to post on-line – an electronic version of the birth circle that can be viewed by women who wouldn't necessarily be able to attend a birth circle in person.
